The transition from design to reality is a collaborative process. Clearly fine
craftsmanship on the part of the cabinetmaker is essential to success. No less important, however,
is attention to form and function at the very beginning of a project. Our projects typically begin with a ‘brain-storming'
session that includes the client, the designer, and the cabinetmaker. It is in this creative environment, where ideas
are freely shared, that an optimal design can best evolve. Our goal is a design that is consistent with the client's wishes
and the realities of fabrication. We further encourage the client and the designer to visit the shop as the work progresses
and to continue to be a part of the process.

In this historic home, the original wall and fireplace offered
little space for either storage or display. The design of these truly custom cabinets was enhanced by both
the artistic and practical suggestions by the client.

The Middleton Tavern is an historic Annapolis landmark. The new bar we built in 1983, designed by the architect Gary Schwerzler, is a blend of the old world craftsmanship, natural wood, and elegant design. The client wanted cabinetry
that reflected the historic and continuous use of the building. Using natural wood, without stain, allowed the cabinetry to
deepen in color over the first eight months, producing a warm, clear finish that would draw less attention to wear & tear
and require less complicated re-finishing in the cabinetry's long future.
